I Am Love
Author Unknown
Some say I can fly on the wind, yet I haven’t any wings.
Some have found me floating on the open sea, yet I cannot swim.
Some have felt my warmth on cold nights, yet I have no flame.
And though you cannot see me,
I lay between two lovers at the hearth of fireplaces.
I am the twinkle in your child’s eyes.
I am hidden in the lines of your mother's face.
I am your father's shield as he guards your home.
And yet… Some say I am stronger than steel, yet I am as fragile as a tear.
Some have never searched for me, yet I am around them always.
Some say I die with loss, yet I am endless.
And though you cannot hear me, I dance on the laughter of children.
I am woven into the whispers of passion.
I am in the blessings of Grandmothers.
I embrace the cries of newborn babies.
And yet… Some say I am a flower, yet I am also the seed.
Some have little faith in me, yet I will always believe in them.
Some say I cannot cure the ill, yet I nourish the soul.
And though you cannot touch me, I am the gentle hand of the kind.
I am the fingertips that caress your cheek at night.
I am the hug of a child.
I am love.
Introduction to Blessing
Water has long been considered by many as the source of life. Water is in and around all of
us, and is also a symbol of the human spirit--- always in motion, never ceasing, only taking
new forms. Every element of creation needs water to grow and thrive, to even
survive. The trees and flowers, the fish and the birds, and all of us. Water nourishes us,
cleanses us, comforts us, renews us.
We believe and know in our hearts that _____baby_____ made his/her way onto this
earth as a pure, innocent, and perfect soul, this ceremony is not intended to cleanse or purify him/her.
It is instead to celebrate his/her life, and to signify our intentions to nourish his/her heart, his/her
mind, his/her body, and his/her spirit.... to allow his/her life to flow in the direction he/she chooses each day,
with the love and guidance of family and friends to help him/her find his/her way.
Our hope for you is that the love that surrounds you today will wash over you like rain every
day of your life, just as this water rains on you now…
Blessing
May you always be connected to to the spiritual/metaphysical.
{officiant sprinkles water from bowl or lightly pours from pitcher on crown}
May your senses always be awakened and aware.
{officiant sprinkles water from bowl or lightly pours from pitcher on brow}
May your heart always be opened and filled with love.
{officiant sprinkles water from bowl or lightly pours from pitcher on chest}
May your hands always reach for and hold your hopes and dreams.
{officiant sprinkles water from bowl or lightly pours from pitcher on hands}
May your feet always ground you to the earth giving you strength and a foundation from which to grow.
{officiant sprinkles water from bowl or lightly pours from pitcher on feet}
May you always know, may you always feel, may you always be present in the moment, the here, the now
and be blessed because of it.

Welcoming
We welcome you baby . Your family welcomes you with joyous hearts. Life welcomes you with all of its possibilities. Welcome, little one. Welcome to this beautiful world and all the things you bring with you and all that you will grow to be to make it a better place. We are honored with you presence. We recognize us as one and as all. May you always feel safe. May you always feel wonder. May you always feel connected. May you always feel welcome. The world welcomes you with open arms. Welcome!
Optional Parental Vows
parent and parent , the journey of parenthood is one of amazing beauty.
The love that radiates from and around you and your son/daughter today shall evolve
over the years. We gather here because it is our wish that baby grow to be a man/woman who
truly loves his/her life. You most of all will be his/her guide on this journey. It is important to provide
not only food and clothing to a child but also time and love and respect. So it is only right that
this ceremony should include your promise to nurture your son/daughter in all ways as he/she grows.
Therefore as a promise to him/her and a reminder to yourselves as the years pass, I now ask you…
Do you promise to teach baby not who or what, but how to love, to trust, to respect, and to
dream so that he/she may truly participate in the remarkable journey that is life?
Parents: “Yes.”
To be honest about your triumphs and as well as your missteps so that baby will have the
valuable opportunity to learn form your example, yet still be free to learn his/her own lessons in life?
Parents: “Yes.”
“That you will value his/her hopes and dreams and let him/her
know that he/she will always be welcomed, accepted and loved
for who he/she is and for who he/she is not?”
Parents: “Yes.”
To expose him/her to a variety of experiences, showing him/her the beginnings of many a wondrous
journey, instilling in him/her a sense of wonder and passion, and the knowledge that he/she alone has
the power to complete himself/herself?
Parents: “Yes.”
Do you promise to hold him/her close in your hearts always, yet still encourage him/her to stand on his/her
own when the time comes so that he/she may discover his/her own true self?
Parents: “Yes.”
**(Grandparent and/or Sibling Vows are an option as well.)**
Optional Godparent Vows
It is often mistakenly thought that the Godparents are only chosen through certain churches or religions and the ones
who shall raise a child in the event that the parents cannot. But this is not so. Godparents are those who promise they will be there to help the child grow spiritually/with integrity/ethical. Theirs is a special place in baby 's.
The promise is one of a physical presence in his/her life as someone who he/she knows will always be standing quietly behind him/her, encouraging him/her to make good choices, and sharing with him/her the lessons they themselves have learned along the way.
parent and parent , as baby 's parents the duty to safeguard his/her future is yours. Have you
chosen those who will aid you in giving love and council to your child as he/she grows?
parents: “We Have.”
Mother: “We have chosen Godparent and Godparent ."
Father: "They are very special people to us and will also be to our son/daughter."
{Godparents come forward}
While you are not baby 's parents the place that you have both taken in his/her life is an
important one. parent and parent trust your motivations and your judgment completely and they
take comfort in knowing that although there will be times when baby cannot come to them,
that he/she will always be able to come to you for guidance and support. By accepting the role of
Godparent you say to baby and the world. I promise, I will be there for you as you grow
into manhood/womanhood. With this in mind I now ask you...
Will you as best as you can, help take care of baby ?
To protect him/her at all times from harm?
To encourage, guide and support him/her in all his/her endeavors,
Help him/her recognize the beauty within himself/herself and all things,
And to become some day not the man/woman we wish for him/her but the realization of his/her own hopes,
dreams and the fulfillment of his/her soul/spirit/life?”
Godparents: “We will.”
“May you always know how special you are to parent and parent that they would ask you to tend
to the most precious thing that they have in this world..”
